Bushmills claims to be the oldest distillery in the world, with records showing Sir Robert Savage of Ards in 1276 gathered his troops for 'a mighty drop of 'aqua vitae', which was a popular name for whisky.
Bushmills distillery is located in Northern Ireland on the north coast of County Antrim. Sir Thomas Philips was granted a license to distil in 1608 and founded Bushmills.
Throughout history many distilleries have faced challenges and many changed their recipes when a new malt tax was introduced in 1850. However, Bushmills never and went on to win a Gold Medal at the Paris 1889 Expo.
