NIkka Pure Malt
Masataka Taketsuru the 'father of Japanese whisky' travelled to Scotland in the early 1900s to study the production of whisky. When he returned to Japan, he became set on the mission to produce quality Japanese whiskey and in 1934 he created Nikka Whisky after forming the Nikka Distilling Company in Yoichi, Hokkaido. Nikka has expanded with great demand and now operates two distilleries; on at Yoichi and the other at Miyagikyo. Taketsuru chose the locations for his distilleries based on his research in Scotland. He looked for characteristic that mirrored the Scottish landscape, taking into account the water source, humidity and air quality.
