Laphroaig is one of Scotland's strongest flavoured whiskies with a heavy peaty taste. Traditional casks used since the 1700s known as quarter casks (which made it easier for mules to transport). This allows a greater contact between wood and spirit.
Laphroaig is an Islay single malt distillery. It is located at the top of Lock Laphroaig on he south coast of the Isle of Islay. Founded in 1825 by two brothers Donald & Alexander Johnston from the Clan Donald. The distillery made a crafty move during the American prohibition and convinced the American market that the drink was not really whisky. They sold Laphroaig under the label of 'medical spirit'.
Laphroaig is the only whisky to carry the Royal Warrant of the Prince of Wales, which was awarded after a personal visit in 1994. Laproaigh 10 Year Old is supposedly his favourite dram.
