Balblair, founded in 1790, is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland. Founded by John Ross on the shores of Dornoch Firth, located in the Northern Highlands of Scotland. The area in which the distillery is located was once known as ‘parish of the peats’ simply because of the abundance of peat in the soil. The current distillery building dates back to the 1890s. Balblair still uses the slightly peated water from Ault Dearg burn and ingeniously tanked this water source to the distillery.
